STAGES IN SSB INTERVIEW

STAGE -1

1.Officer intelligence rating test :
Consists of verbal and non-verbal questions. This is to test the reasoning ability, the basic intelligence and speed of solving by the candidates.
2.Picture perception and discussion test:
Generally a hazy picture is displayed for 30 seconds and time of 3 minutes and 30 seconds is given to write a story on what you see in picture. Later groups are formed by the board to set in a discussion by group to come out with a common story. Before the discussion each will get 1 minute to narrate their story. This discussion is generally very competitive as everyone comes out with their own points and wanted it to be concluded by the group.

STAGE - 2

1.Psychology test:
i.Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
ii.Word Association Test (WAT)
iii.Situation Reaction Test (SRT)
iv.Self-Description Test (SDT)
2.Group testing is a bundle of test that includes - Group discussions, lecturette, group/military planning exercise,Group tasks(Progressive group task, half group task, command task and final group task), Obstacles (Individual and group obstacles).

3.Personal interview.

After the above process candidates attend the conference which is the final part of SSB interview. After which results are announced.

Through Exams

1.Combined Defence Services Exam

Through CDS examination one can join Indian Army (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission) , Indian Navy and Indian Air Force (Permanent Commission). CDS exam is conducted twice a year. Women candidates are eligible to join Indian Army in Short Service Commission. Both men and women candidates will be trained at Officers Training Academy-Chennai(Short Service Commission). Candidates opting for permanent commission in – Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force will be trained at IMA, INA, AFA respectively. Both final year students and graduates are eligible.

2.Air Force Common Admission Test

Through AFCAT exam one can join Indian Air Force in anyone of the  three branches – Flying, Ground-Duty (Technical) and Ground-Duty (Non-Technical). AFCAT exam is conducted by Indian Air Force twice a year. Men and women candidates are eligible for both Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission. Candidates will be trained at Air Force Academy, Dundigal. Join Indian Air Force and stay a cut above. Both final year students and graduates are eligible.

3.National Defence Academy Exam

Through NDA examination one can join Indian Army , Indian Navy and Indian Air Force (in Permanent Commission). NDA exam is conducted twice a year. Candidates with physics and mathematics 10+2 will be eligible for Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. For Indian Army candidates in any stream are eligible. Both 12th appearing and 12th passed students are eligible.

4.Indian Coast Guard

Every year officer recruitment is done at the level of Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard. It is done in two phases – Preliminary Selection and Final selection by the boards, generally called as PSB and FSB interview. PSB and FSB are slight variation of SSB interview.
