All about Combined Defence Services exam (CDS exam)

Union Public Service Commission conducts Combined Defence Services Exam to recruit candidates for Commissioned officers in Defence Services. Male Candidates are offered permanent commission in defence services(Army, Navy & Air Force) to get trained at Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy respectively. Both Female and male candidates are offered short service commission in Indian Army to get trained at Officers’ Training Academy,Chennai. 

CDS Exam Scheme:

1.Written Exam (Objective type)

a) General English (120 questions)

b) General Knowledge (120 questions)

c) Elementary Mathematics (100 questions)

100 marks for Each paper

* One-third negative marks will be given for each wrong answers in respective papers.

Permanent commission  (Male candidates only)

 3 papers (GK, GE & Maths)  

Short Service Commission (Female & male Candidates)

2 papers (GK & GE) .

2.SSB Interview

Stage – 1 (Screening Test)

a) Officer Intelligence Rating test (OIR test)

b) Picture Perception and Discussion Test

*After clear stage -1 one will be allowed to attend Stage -2

Stage – 2

a) Psychology test

b) Group Tasks Test

c) Interview

At the end of the above, results are declared after the conference. 

After getting recommended from SSB you will have medical check up.
